When Life Seems Static

Hi friends; it’s been raining cats and dogs all day and right now all I’d like to do is grab a hot drink, and put up my feet.

Come sit with me while we visit together.

I attended the wedding of a lovely woman in her late forties recently and soon after, I had a long wait at the airport and these seemingly unrelated events both set me thinking;

We do quite a lot of waiting in our lifetimes.

That wait to get married must have felt rather long for that woman, considering that lots of her friends have been married for over two decades; and she has a few younger siblings who have walked down the aisle.

I’m in a waiting season

Come to think of it, I’ve been in these kinds of seasons time and time again,

Yes, I have had my share of times of waiting as I journey through life.

Waiting at the bus stop

Waiting to catch the train

Waiting to board the plane

Waiting in bumper to bumper traffic

We do a lot of waiting in our lifetimes.

Waiting

A wise man once said “enjoy the journey on the way to your destination”

Waiting for A-Level results and GCSE results (the dreaded and highly anticipated month of August in the UK)

Waiting to get into school, waiting to get out

Waiting for the right job, waiting for our careers to pick up

Waiting to get married, if you have a mind to;

Waiting to have children, if you’re willing to sign away your life, for at least 18 years!

The pandemic has been a global season of waiting,

Waiting for life to shutdown

Waiting for lockdown to be lifted

Waiting for life to start again

What have I learnt from my “waiting seasons?”

A wise pastor once said, “Remember to enjoy the journey on the way to your destination”

Wherever that destination may be for you

So I have learnt that God is in the waiting (Isaiah 43:2), that He walks with me through my down times.

What else have I learnt?

The pandemic has been a global season of waiting….. waiting for lockdown to be lifted; waiting for life to start again!

That the seasons of waiting do not define me,

We are no less important because our academic progress wasn’t as straightforward as a lot of our peers.

You are no less a woman because it took a while for you to get married and even a while longer for the babies to arrive. (I’ve been there)

And the bride I mentioned at the beginning?

She has pursued her career, taken trips; flourished in her local church, enjoyed getting together with friends (I ran into her once with a group of friends at the cinema); she has had a rich professional and social life

That’s what it means to “enjoy the journey on the way to your destination”

So what are you waiting for; is your season of waiting defining who you are?

It’s time to throw off the less-than-complimentary labels that society has tagged us with

Looking for a label? Here’s one

You are God’s child, made in His image (2 Corinthians 6:18) and He has nothing but the best for you.

I’d love to hear from you, so send in your comments or send in an email. Let’s talk!

  5. All knowledge, it is said, comes from experience, but does that not mean that the more we experience, the wiser we become? If wisdom is the understanding of life, then should we not chase every experience we can, taste every flavor, walk every path, and embrace every feeling? Perhaps the greatest tragedy is to live cautiously, never fully opening oneself to the richness of being.

  6. Even the gods, if they exist, must laugh from time to time. Perhaps what we call tragedy is merely comedy from a higher perspective, a joke we are too caught up in to understand. Maybe the wisest among us are not the ones who take life the most seriously, but those who can laugh at its absurdity and find joy even in the darkest moments.
