What’s Beneath The Surface?

It snowed last night;

I woke up to a picturesque winter wonderland; it looked just like a postcard!

What a lovely sight; who wouldn’t want to wake up to such perfection every day, for the rest of their lives?

In a world before corona virus, children (and some adults too) would be playing in the snow, building snowmen, having snowball fights and generally having loads of fun.

Presenting a façade for the world to see, while our hearts are hurting with pain beneath the surface

Yet, as I looked at the postcard image outside my window, I can see in my mind’s eye the broken slates that need replacing on the roof of one of the houses across the street, and the growing plant flora on most of the roof tiles including ours, the house down the road badly in need of a coat of paint, and the pothole just developing right in front of my house. All these blemishes and many more that we cannot see or never even noticed were there, are completely covered by this beautiful blanket of snow.

And so, as I look at the picture perfect snow, I wonder, don’t I do the same, censoring the ‘me’ that I present to the world;

Don’t we all? Presenting a front, a façade for the world to see, while our hearts are hurting with pain beneath the surface of our bright smiles, manicured nails and well powdered faces?

So what did I learn watching the snow? I learnt that we were never meant to do life alone, to carry our burdens by ourselves, which is why Jesus invites us to come, because His burden is easy and His yoke is light Matthew 11:28.

The old adage says “a trouble shared is a trouble halved”. So my friends, may I ask, what are you hiding beneath the surface? What fears, what hurts, what pain, what regrets? It doesn’t matter how long you have been carrying this burden alone, it is time to let someone in to help bear your burdens Galatians 6:2; remember we are visiting over a cup of tea or coffee and cookies.

  2. In the grand scheme of things you’ll get an A+ just for hard work. Where you actually confused me personally was in all the facts. As as the maxim goes, the devil is in the details… And it couldn’t be much more correct at this point. Having said that, let me inform you just what exactly did do the job. The authoring is extremely powerful and that is possibly the reason why I am taking the effort in order to opine. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. 2nd, whilst I can see a leaps in reason you come up with, I am not necessarily confident of exactly how you seem to connect your ideas that make the actual final result. For the moment I shall subscribe to your position however trust in the foreseeable future you actually connect the facts much better.
